Re: Baron Huschke von Hanstein
I'm researching a story now on a very special 911 we recently acquired. Found this pic along the way, the Baron, King Hussein, and his two favorite Porsches, his 904 and his 911. We have the 911.

I also acquired a letter from him a few years ago. It took me several years to find one, which I found ironic considering he was the press guy at Porsche. I guess he didn't do much of his own correspondence.

When the Turbo came out (1975-76), King Hussein traded his 904 for a new Turbo. Christophorus ran a photo of a Jordanian Air Force plane loading or unloading the cars.
If you are interested, there's a bio of von Hanstein, The Racing Baron, I think.
His sport coat and glasses are in the Sinsheim Museum...

Huschke von Hanstein did a tremendous amount of personal correspondence.Adam Wright wrote:I also acquired a letter from him a few years ago. It took me several years to find one, which I found ironic considering he was the press guy at Porsche. I guess he didn't do much of his own correspondence.
I have many letters from Porsche to my father, including several from von Hanstein. Some are on his personal stationary.

I guess people really cherish the letters because finding one was very hard. I feel fortunate that I have one.Jon Bunin wrote:Huschke von Hanstein did a tremendous amount of personal correspondence.Adam Wright wrote:I also acquired a letter from him a few years ago. When I first saw the picture I thought he gave both cars to the museum but they said the 906 was just sent over for a rally, the 904 was for keeps. The Jordanian's said,Frank Barrett wrote:When the Turbo came out (1975-76), King Hussein traded his 904 for a new Turbo. "He traded his 911 and 904 for two brand new turbos !!! Ouch. The 906 was simply on loan for a hill climb."

A Christmas card from von Hanstein to my father in December 1962.
His note reads "Your Carrera has been already shipped and I hope you'll like it". A letter from Lars Schmidt also informed us that our Carrera had been shipped.

Edwin, it was eventually traded in to Chinetti for a Ferrari. There doesn't seem to be any trace of it today.Edwin Ek wrote:Jon, what happened to your dad's Carrera 2?
I just tried to load a photo of it, but the file is too large.

You know, that is about the only trade you could say was a step up.
