First 356

#1 Post by Harry Fahnestock »

Friends, I wanted to let you know that I bought my first 356 from Mark Sabbann in Stillwater Minnesota. It is a beautiful 1965 Ruby Red 356C. Since Mark is in Minnesota and I am in Reno, Nevada the car is being transported in an enclosed van. I want to thank you all for your comments, suggestions and guidance in making my decision. I'm sure I will be asking for your help and I wish you all a safe and bountiful Thanksgiving!

Congrats Harry

Thanks to Doug McDonnell on this one and Welcome new 356 owners, Harry with Ruby and Charles Robertson with one from Vic. The Upper Midwest is on a roll!
Harry recently flew to MN to look at my car and the 356 Registry is lucky to have such a nice person, straight-up guy and super enthusiastic new member as Harry. From our conversations, I thought Harry would probably have most work done by professional mechanics but he is getting a new lift installed and wants to tackle the basics himself. Way to go Harry! 'Ruby' the 356C is a beautiful car that I have enjoyed driving for the last four years. She is going to a good home and I couldn't be happier.

That's an extremely good car. Mark, one of the last pictures shows a feature I have never seen. The back side of the right closing panel, next to the longitudinal, was there some chamber or small piece there? What I am used to seeing there is basically just flat. Is it a Karmann thing?

I think you are referring to the back of the right front wheel well. Not typical of either Karmann or Reuter. It's a small patch but not sure how or why it's there.

Thank you for well wishes. Yes, I plan on learning to do most of the work on my own. I have owned a number of nice cars but nothing like this! Nor have I been so excited about a car. I have already received 3 service and restoration books and waiting for two more. Also watching every 'how to' video I can find.
I realize that in my first post I did not include that Mark Sabbann is a gentleman and a valuable asset to the 356 community. He was as informative and straightforward as you want a person to be when making a transaction like this. I am very fortunate to find Ruby but even more in establishing a friendship with Mark.
I spent two hours yesterday trying to get a photo of Ruby into my profile with absolutely no luck! Something about editing my 'Avatar' and every time I attempted to upload a photo it said file is too big - must be 9 KiB or smaller! I realize that while I was doing this I was creating my first post and going back and forth to the Avatar thing I left some of the message out. Emailed webmaster for help!

Harry, an easy way to reduce the size of your picture is to e-mail it to yourself, then save it to documents or another picture file. You may be prompted to select a size of picture you want to send, so choose the one that is as big as it can be while being small enough to post as an avatar.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Thanks for the pictures! Very nice! That car was manufactured only 20 cars from mine. That's probably within a day or two given there were only about 1100 made :)
