Are there grease nipples on the handbrake cables?

#1 Post by Neil Bardsley »

I was under the rear of my a and noticed what looked like grease nipples on the handbrake cables? On the side need the body of the car not wheel. I tried to grease but I'm not sure it went in anywhere. I do think I've seen them on the lubrication chart?

Neil, if you clean all the grease off you will find that the cable has a hex fitting on it and where it enters the chassis is a hex nut. This allows one to adjust the length of the outer cable to effect some adjustment of the handbrake cable. Unless you clean all the grease and dirt off it you would never know that adjustment was there.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Yes, a bit rear of where they exit the tunnel.

And on the early cars there's one on at the end of handbrake cable housing that runs near the steering box.

Thank you for the replies. One of the cable/brakes has been sticking when sitting for a while so I will see if this helps.
