Source for Zenith 32 NDIX jets?

#1 Post by Mervyn Hyde »

What sources are there for these (main and idle) as I like to have spares? I know about Alfa 1750 but had a negative experience with the person operating that distributor.

Merv,

What spares are you looking for--Same as what you have, or?

Merv, you may be better off just buying a spare carb, then you have all the spares you need.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Jim at 356 Carburetor Rescue has them. I wouldn't think you should need spares for the stock jets. You might need smaller ones if you have to adjust for altitude.

Actually Dick, I have 0.55's as idle jets. The car is a 1962 T6B normal motor that was rebuilt in the late 80's with a C crank, cylinders pistons and most moving parts. The mains are 1.15. So I was also going to do a little experimentation and get 50 idles and spare 115 mains. I am at sea level. I will write to Jim at Carb rescue.

Merv,

You said you rebuilt the engine, but is it still a Normal including the pistons & cylinders, or a C?
Did you change the cam (and rocker assemblies)? The mains are listed for 115s w/50 idle metering, 24 venturis, & 120 idle air for a Normal, but changes to a C would have 130 mains, 55 idle metering, 28 venturis, & 140 idle air. Air corrections would be 230 or 210 respectfully. (or 220 in-between)

Dick, the now very elderly original owner (who I bought it off 3 years ago) had it rebuilt and fully balanced, back in the late 80's, to C spec I am advised. It had burned a piston I was told. I have no more information. The rockers are the steel originals I believe. The crank, rods, P's and C's were changed. Not sure on the cam, but I suspect original. It has done 10,000 miles since then, still with excellent performance over some long trips with me. I rebuilt the carbs (along with having the dizzy also rebuilt). The current jets are 115 main and 55 idle and the idle air and air correction jets are still 'stock' (except the idles @ 55). I wanted to do a little experimentation as well to see if any variations in the jetting had an impact (e.g., the mains at 120-125).

Edit:

Jim and Candace at CR are helping me with this. I also measured the sizes of the ones I received earlier from my former European source and found some of them incorrectly labelled, or off size. Some 55's were 50. I am getting some original 55's (Idle) and also will experiment with some 120 Mains (current are 115), given the reported history of the motor.

Close off on this. I received some cleaned and gauged original idle and mains from Jim and Candace at CR and they were right on spec (of course). I fitted the 55 idles and 120 mains and, after doing carbs' balance and the idle-air mixtures again, they seem to work really well, especially the mains have nice progression and operate well throughout their rev range. Thanks Jim, Candace and Dick.
