GT Carrera Speedster floor mats?

#1 Post by Burt Norris »

Help!
I've heard for years that GT Carrera Speedsters were not equipped with the standard rubber floor mats. Does anyone have a reference that proves or disproves this lack of floor mat? If no rubber mat, then what was used, if anything?

Thanks,
Burt Norris

Burt,

Floor mats are heavy--try weighing one. Just painted floors and possibly vinyl covering like the rest of the interior (if existing),
but shoes would harm the vinyl eventually.

Dick, thanks for the info, I was headed in that direction but decided to inquire of the Community first.

No vinyl on the floors, just black paint.
It did have a rubber mat I suppose was installed by the P.O.

I have a few photos of Bill Romig's 1959 GT Speedster, taken about 1993, +/- 9,000 miles, which show the vinyl installed on the passenger compartment thresholds and also the kick panels which were also vinyl and the rear seating area which was carpeted. Sorry but no photos of the floors. If you are interested email me you address and a deposit of $100,000 and you can borrow, and scan the photos.

Or you can contact me and I'll send them to you. Appears that the floor was covered with a standard rubber mat; maybe something Bill added for longevity.

Painted black over original paint (stone grey) which shows through the black.

The usual black mats, front and rear were also in the GT cars.

Below is 27K mile original interior GT car. I have owned 5 GT Speedsters
and 2 GT Coupes. All had rubber mats.

Hi Tim: Thanks for the photo and insight. Is that a "B" shift lever in the Speedster? Unusual!
