Rattling Clutch and crunchy reverse

Since I bought my ‘58 A (it has a C gearbox) I had to annually adjust the pedal play because it starts crunching when I put it in reverse then few weeks later, it will be reverse and first gears
Last week it started crunching in reverse but also there is a rattle noise from the clutch when the pedal is depressed. Clutch does not slip under load or uphill
Is the cable on its way out or there is something more serious happening at the clutch/pressure plate/thrust bearing end?

Could be the throw out arms touching the pressure plate if they are going too far. I had that during multiple attempts to find what pressure plate would work with a S90 in a VW. A couple throwout shafts later, I got it working.

Crunching: clutch not releasing enough; move the pedal stop up.
Rattling; throwout bearing; or, as Martin said, too much travel.

I have an update
Pulled the cable out, all looks good
Refitted it and adjusted everything including pedal stop
No crunching but when I depress the pedal, engine revs drop even in natural
Something not quite right. Time to drop the engine?

Throw out bearing Rafik, I reckon, if the cable is adjusted correctly.

Just a reminder...when you are changing/ inspecting the throw-out bearing, also examine the fork in the trans., in which the bearing is attached. Look also for excessive wear on the t/o bearing arms, as this can be a factor in the good operation of the clutch. Use some lubricant on the bearing arms and also lightly on the surface of the guide tube.
Don't forget to get some oil into the ends of the throw out fork, as these almost never receive lubrication and can cause balky clutch operation. I know this from personal experience! It drove me crazy for quite some time, about thirty years ago. Having everything else properly adjusted and lubricated, the clutch would always crunch when the car was first used every day. Took some investigation to realize what was happening, ( engine pulled at the curbside in front of home.). In my case, I removed the cross shaft and greased the ends before re-insertion. Never had the problem again, even while using the car daily.

This is highly unlikely, but there is no interference with the nearby throttle pull rod, is there?

+1 I did mine recently when I changed the 'plate. Checked and cleaned the forks and arms and used some Bendix blue ceramic high temp grease that sticks well and doesn't harden over time. Nice and smooth.
