356c transmission oil
Haven't changed my 356C transmission oil since the Nixon Administration. What's recommended these days. Somebody used to suggest adding a little STP? Probably Andy Granatelli. Thanks, Bud

Re: 356c transmission oil
Coincidentally I just looked this up for a friend of mine. Per the lubrication schedule in the drivers manual, transaxle oil was to be replaced at 1500 miles after the break in period. However, I suspect that with the new oils like Swepco, the interval is longer.

In this link Vic Skirmants says any good name brand 80/90 weight oil. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40632&hilit=transmission+oil+oil I use Swepco but some complain of more leaks using it.

The Swepco does seem to be thinner in viscosity.

Re: 356c transmission oil
I stand corrected by someone with definitely more experience and knowledge than I possess, Dick Weiss.
After break-in, the transaxle oil should be checked at 3000 miles and changed at 12,000. If your driving conditions are more severe, as with engine oil, it should be changed more frequently.
Thanks, Dick. Much appreciated.

Vic and Dick are truly two of our best authorities--go with their advice.
I switched the tranny oil in my 356C to Swepco about 15 years ago and immediately noticed slightly smoother shifting.Very happy with it, but some have stated that Swepco may be more leak prone than regular 80/90 wt gear oil.
Good Luck, George Dunn

I too thought my shifting was a bit better with Swepco.George Dunn wrote:Vic and Dick are truly two of our best authorities--go with their advice.
