Took the car for a drive after been sitting for a month
It was a 45 minutes high speed drive each way
Ran fine as usual. When I pulled in the garage, I noticed a splatter of oil on the right side of the engine
Opened the deck lid, oil everywhere. Feared the worst but after a couple of minutes of cleaning and inspection, I noticed the dip stick is missing
Unless I forgot to put the dip stick back in last time I checked the oil (which is unlikely), what is the issue?

The engine is a 1720 twin plug dry sump

Nope

I think you left it out. Even the dipsticks with the temp gauge on top, which have no curved section to cause friction in the tube, don't blow out of the hole. Oil leaks at the top of the dipstick are common but not projectile dipsticks.

Look on your workbench.

And your garage floor.

Sorry, Rafik, but I can't believe that your engine not only blew the dipstick out but it also then somehow fell through the sealing tins/rubber? I'm having a hard time understanding how that could happen. Just my $0.02.

Perhaps the dipstick was just sick of the same old routine and decided to move to better pastures.

ehm... not directly related but how / where does it measure oil if it is a dry sump?

Rafik, if you are to presume it went missing during a drive, you're going to have to find an opening where it might have escaped the engine bay.
I know your engine is far from stock, but do you have holes big enough that it might have gone out of them? If not, your answer is evident.

How did you do the dry sump? Jules asks a very good question too. Who built the engine?

Well it appears that your fan belt is still intact. The comment that dipsticks never get forced out while driving reminds me that I was once driving at highway speed when I heard a loud bang and saw the warning light come on. The engine was still running and the car was driving well, but after stopping to investigate I found that the fan belt had let go, wrapped itself around the dip stick which it had pulled out and slammed right into a hole it had punched into the engine tin. I was able to extract it from the tin and put it back correctly for the short drive home.

It couldn't have been too dry or there would be more parts out of place than just the dipstick!
