ECH Caravan?

#1 Post by Sean M Rooks »

Hi everyone! The ECH in Ocean City is nearly upon us. I am quite excited to be attending my first Holiday as an owner. I've been to a couple in the early 2000's when I was getting seriously into these cars but not ready to buy. In retrospect, I wish I had picked up a couple cars back then! I learned a lot and it was a joy to see so many 356s in one place.

We are leaving for the event early Wednesday morning, and we have finally settled on a route:

I'm curious if anyone else in the southeast is planning to leave Wednesday morning as well taking a similar path, as it would be fun to caravan with some fellow cars. Even if it's just an informal thing for part of the way.

We're leaving Richmond before rush hour, taking 301 to route 50 over the bay, continuing up 301 to Wilmington and crossing the Delaware river and then Route 40 and 52 into Ocean City. We considered crossing the Delaware Bay via the Lewes Ferry, but it added too much time to the trip. We are avoiding major highways like 95 to keep the traffic and speed down, and the buzzing from the motor to a minimum so my wife and I can actually converse during the trip. :)

Looking forward to doing final prep over the next few days and hitting the road Wednesday AM!

I was driving my 356 home from Road Atlanta Saturday morning and passed a Champagne Yellow coupe and a Silver coupe. I was southbound on I95 and they were both northbound and most likely driving up to the ECH. I was somewhere south of Savannah, Georgia when I spotted them. Safe travels to all!

Your trip was epic, Mark! If you can make it across the country, we can make it to New Jersey! :)

Thanks for the tub-spotting.

Ned, I will enroute from VT to ECH tomorrow via CT. Plan to depart CT around the same time as you, same route .
Only problem is that I doubt I will make the Simone tour from ech.

Anyone know if we can go straight to the museum?

Are you laying overnight in CT and making it a 2 day drive, or going all the way tomorrow? Reason for the ask is we (some TYP356ne'rs) are going all the way tomorrow and using I-84, Tapan Zee Bridge, and the GSP.

Mark, you should go directly. I don't know what arrangements have been maid by the organizers but Simeone is a bit far from OC and your total mileage/time will be shorter to go to Simeone first.

You will go 95 or 287 or ??? not so much GSP which is too far East from Simeone.

Hi Jeffery,

Was planning to stop in MadisonCT for the night, then leave early Thurs.

I am considering driving straight through to avoid traffic and make it to Simone in the AM.

Traffic is the big consideration. I don't do traffic...

Thanks Cliff, good to know showing up at Museum is an option. It istheonly extra I signed up for and would hate to miss it.

if you are driving your 356 i would recommend jumping on 15 in Milford take 95 to 15 to 287 you can avoid all the congestion . not to mention 15 is a nice 2 lane ride way less stressful than 95

I was hoping you could catch up with us tomorrow Mark. It would nice to have the added company in line.

We all have our favorite routes for our own various reasons. I, for one, avoid the 15 specifically because it is a 2 lane highway. I've been trapped on it too many times when there has been a road incident, and there is no third lane way around it. I like having the "elbow room" on these drives.

Thanks Thomas, have been there many times. Mom lives a few miles from there.

Thanks Jeffery, it would be fun to caravan, but at this point it looks like I will leave from CT early Thurs and head to museum in PHL. I can't get out of work early tomorrow so will arrive in CT around 7.
Safe travels everyone!

Merritt and I 95 a parking lot. Cutting across northern Westchester to 684. Beautiful back roads, having a good drive despite traffic set back. Still hope to catch the tail end of Someone tour...
