History of 115517

#1 Post by Steve Turino »

I would love to find out the history of my car, chassis #115517 1961 B Super, Reutter coupe. I know it has been in RI since 1994 and probably a bit before, and I have some idea of it's life during this time from the previous owner, but nothing prior to 1994. Anyone know this car or know of a way to find out info?

I have not see that car noted before, so it may be difficult to find more info. Going back through issues of the Registry magazine or PCA Panorama magazine may help. The Kardex (I can assist) may have some distributor information and possibly a first owner.

My car is only about 400 before yours. Mine is Heron Grey with a red interior. It would be interesting to know your configuration. While mine now lives in Massachusetts, it started out in Texas.

Thank you all for commenting, the car is in Aetna blue with light grey interior and still wears these colors. David I would be interested in finding out about obtaining the Kardex. I just emailed you. I also found in the member's car section, a car produced right next to mine, not that that helps with mine's history.

I should also note that I have the CoA which agrees with what is on the car, but does not speak to this point. The interior garnish rails and dash pad (which appears to be original along with the rest of the interior except for the seat covers), are a darker shade of blue. I would almost prefer to have the garnish rails in Aetna blue. I understand that Porsche may have done the contrasting garnish rail color scheme but somehow doesn't look quite right to me.

I believe the rule is dashtop same color as interior and garnish rails to match. The subject car has what appears to be grey upholstery with a blue dashtop, with the garnish rails matching the dashtop. My car, 115155, has a red interior with red dashtop and red garnish rails, while the exterior is Heron Grey. I have never heard of contrasting dashtop/garnish rails and upholstery.

Steve, my very late, titled as a '61, #114xxx coupe, was sold through our then local dealer, bought at trade in by the parts dept. manager, and I bought it in '68, and though the car had been cheaply overpainted in a wrong red, it was easy to tell, that it had originally been Ruby Red, with the same light Grey. The dash top, was red, and the Garnish moldings were a Maroon color. The Germans, will be German, and their sense of color, does not match ours. When I redid the car in '69, I changed the dash top to Black, and painted the garnish moldings to a black, in lacquer. All the late C/SC cars, seemed to be Signal Red, so I mistakenly painted mine Signal Red. When I get around to it, I'll go back to the Ruby Red I should have painted it back then.

("shhhh, don't tell anyone, I might be branded an outlaw"...)

Suit you,
Mike

Mike
It sounds like your dash top and garnish rails were a semblance of your exterior color also. Thanks for sharing that.
