Bob Chase - R.I.P.

#1 Post by E Rutherford »

I was told that Bob Chase passed away this morning peacefully. He will be missed like all the other talented craftsmen that we have lost over the years.

If you have any work or parts that Bob had been working on, please give the family at least a couple of weeks to get through this difficult time before you contact them. I am sure Bob's wife will reach out in time to provide a contact point to settle with those who have unfinished business.

Although I did not know Bob personally I had 3-4 conversations with him reguarding the recreation of a new rear bumper tube. His craftsmanship is better than perfect. A piece of him rides with all 356's he helped restore. Thanks Bob.

This is very sad to hear. I not only had the pleasure of meeting Bob, he took on the job of restoring a rough set of bumper guards and overrider bars I gave him for my 57 Cab. His skills and talents went well beyond my expectations. He was a master of this type of metal work second to none. For those that knew Bob he was one of the kindest gentleman you could ever know. He will forever be in my memories and I find comfort that I can proudly display his wonderful work wherever my travels take me. RIP Bob

I will be going through Bob's shop with Sharon in a few weeks and will be glad to help identify and return any parts that Bob might have had belonging to anyone in the 356 community. If you like you may contact me direct with details and descriptions rather than impose on Bob's family during their time of grief.

So sorry to hear this. Bought one of his overrider bars and he was so great to deal with. One of the good guys. He suggested that I send the bumper guards and bumper for precision fit at his hand. I did and it came back perfect. RIP, Grey Eagle.

Our hearts go out to Bob’s family. We never had the opportunity to meet Bob, but we had the absolute pleasure of working with him on the purchase of a set of bumper guards for our 1959 Convertible D. He was a joy to talk to and he will not only be missed by his family but by the 356 enthusiasts who had the pleasure to work with him.
