What happened to my356speedster.com?

Anyone knows what's going on?

Never visited that one, but I can tell you that if a URL is even a bit popular and support payment lapses, it's pretty much grabbed the next day. Might be a spam distributor; often enough a porn site.

This is another reason we should beef up our own 356 Registry, remember when we used to actually register cars? Showing their info, ownership, etc. Everyone keeping these side lists and side sights that get lost on old computers. Remember the Roadster Registry? The Porsche 356 Registry, like our cars, will be around long after we are. We need to get back to the roots of the club and register the cars with their details. The club no longer does this and the Registrar was told to stop.

I've often toyed with the idea of setting up websites, that have been lost to the masses, on a free site. There have been a few that have been of great interest to me and others which are, sadly, no longer in service, but I'm not sure how how that would sit ethically, even with a large disclaimer stating that it was someone else's site, saved for posterity.

For my own research, I've saved this site for future access, but if the Wayback Machine ever decided to pull the pin, a lot of amazing (and not so amazing) sites would be lost forever.

I am/was the registrar to whom Adam refers. I still unofficially collect the information I was asked to collect -- starting with eight Xerox paper sized boxes of registry wraps no one ever entered. I was approved as registrar at an open board meeting by the trusties and threatened with banishment from the list if I persisted by a previous president by fiat.

As with the collectible art world you have your choice of hiding ownership or establishing provenance.
My take is that by belonging to the Registry and especially by asking model specific questions we have announced to the world the ownership of a 356 -- hiding is no longer an option. By listing your 356 you can establish provenance and importantly provide useful information to other members. Several special registries -- Peter Dick's and Roy Lock's D'Ieteren roadster registries were given to me prior to their deaths and I actively share information with those documenting PreAs.

My registry is open. I gladly accept any 356s submitted and just as gladly attempt to ownership and originality questions.

This Summer I purchased a Speedster that was previously owned by a member. The car is currently listed under its VIN number.
I tried to update that info but was unable to do so.
How do I update the Speedster's info?

Hi Leo.

I think you might need to play around with the dates at the very top - I'm having similar issues with another site. The Wayback Machine takes snapshots at different intervals, so often the links we expect to be there, aren't.

According to The Wayback Machine, it has captured 344 URLs for the site. Below is a link to the complete list. It probably isn't everything that you want, sadly, but may help you out. Just ignore most of the URLs on the first page - those that have Chinese sounding names are the Chinese site; the first two are real, as is the last entry - all those that have the 2018 date are fake. Page 2 onwards looks pretty good - think these captures may be what you are after.

It will take a bit of work - it goes to a calendar for the year of the snapshot, and then you need to click on the date that has a blue circle. This should then show the snapshot of the site taken on that particular date at a particular time.
