What do these numbers mean on a 741 transmission

#1 Post by JERRY LANDES »

Here are the numbers stamped on the transmission.

741/2 - 26-23 I know that a 741/2 is a BBBD gear set but what does the 26-23 mean?
My little spec book says 26-23 is a B 4th gear so is this transmission a BBBB? So is the B gear between a D and a C 4th gear ratio?
I see the B gear in the combination of BBAB listed for the 716/2

4B is between 4D and 4C; like it shows in the book. There should not be any ratio numbers stamped from the factory.

Thanks Vic, What confused me was the ratio stamped on the case suggesting a 4B. Yet the 741/2 indicates a 4D.
