Interior door panels?

#1 Post by Perry DePietro »

I did a couple searches of the Forum and could not find the answer to this question. I need to make some interior door panels for my 57 Coupe. I plan to cover them in leather but need to know what the structural part of the panel is made from. Thank you in advance. By

I Googled "weather board + upholstery" and came up with several options. As a thought, perhaps an upholstery shop like Autos International or K & H European Auto Upholstery would sell you just the backing.

I just made a set for my 912. I used a newer technology ABS door card sheet. It's the same thickness, stronger, lighter and won't absorb water if wet. These were covered with woven leather. The authenticity police might complain but they worked very well. Available from any auto interior supplier.

Thank you both. Wow, John, those look great. What was the supplier for the ones you chose?

The door card material came from https://www.perfectfit.com . I used the old panels as a patern. The woven veal skin came from Spinneybeck . I bought the leather and made my cards from 56x96" sheets of the 1/8" ABS stock. Any wholesale supplier will have stock, I think it comes in several widths. Easy to work with.
