Paintless dent repair on 356

#1 Post by Stephen Ebbs »

I small dent (under 1/2") occurred in the rear panel of my 356C about 2 - 3 inches above and to the side of the rear plate - easily accessible from the rear. My local paintless dent repair guy has declined - saying that on older Porsche the steel is too strong and the paint will crack. I have found mention on the forum of people using paintless repair on newer cars - but does anyone have any experience on 356s?
Thanks
Steve

I had it done on my last car. Paint was about 25 years old when it was done. I got all the disclaimers from the person who did the job. Oh, and the car was/is black. Got a great guy to do it who did all the work for the Mercedes dealership.
Came out perfect. Even with black paint, the reflection did not alter across the repair. Worth every penny!

I had three small ones in the left rear fender well. All removed without any cracking, etc.

If you decide to watch, be prepared to be worried when they do the stress relief so that the dent will not want to come back. My guy kept hitting the metal surrounding the dent so that it was all "relieved". All I can say is that it all exceeded my expectations but watching that part of the process was a bit stressful- no pun intended.

It absolutely can be done. I saw a repair on a ‘63 S90 original paint coupe, and the same fellow did a ‘58 Speedster with a 30- year old lacquer paint job, and both turned out as new, you couldn’t tell there was a dent before.

I had a small crease removed from the left rear body section, came out perfect. I removed the rear wheel. so he could get at it. My paint is about 7 yrs old.
