I just helped Tom Olson install the GDP sport muffler on his coupe. Its all stainless, very well made and looks like a 692 without the valance. We did a postmortem on the old muffler.

The Original OEM muffler had a rattle with something clanking around inside. I cut the end off to look inside and a 2-3" piece of the #1 inlet pipe had broken off. Muffler seemed to be fine except for a clunk when shaking it when we had it off the engine.

I plan to weld the end back on, clean up the J-Pipe overlaps and make it serviceable again. I do not think the short section of pipe will effect the way it operates.

Could you see where the piece came from?

The only place I can think of is off the broken pipe shown in the photo. It was too large to have come through the ballance tube or the exit pipe to the center chamber. It was the same size as the inlet pipe but did not fit the witness marks on the remaining pipe.
