Porsche 356 models: Classic Clay Cars

#1 Post by Wayne Arny »

I was out on Whidbey Island, WA, two weeks ago (to attend the change of command at the Naval Air Station where my son took over as the Commanding Officer!), and my wife dragged me into a pottery shop (or two!). In one, I noticed that the owner had crafted a couple of classic cars in clay, and I asked if he did 356s. He then pointed to a couple he had done. I took some pictures (below), and I'm ordering one this week!

The potter is Dan Ishler, ishler1@frontier.com, 360-929-0817. Price to us 356ers is $150 + shipping.

I have no affiliation with the shop, other than as a new customer.

Very cool and creative. Did he say how long it would take and can you select the colors?

I checked with Dan, and he said 3-4 weeks, and he can do close to any color you'd need. Send pictures so he can get the details close. Also, if you have a distinct license plate, with a photo of it he can miniature that and add it! But remember, it's art and not a plastic model! So it won't be perfect. Also, tiny things like script, etc., don't work. With mine, I intend to ask him to put a small "dribble" of gold color where the script and badges are, just to set it off a bit! Just a thought!

I've already been in touch with Dan and sent him pics of my car for a model. Many thanks for the tip.

I was just a grunt but really appreciated the support from you fly boys!
