1961 356B T5 fuel pump line leak question

#1 Post by Max Imber »

Hi all,

The hose on my fuel pump line is leaking--what is the correct hose diameter to replace it with? What is the correct ferrule to to seal the hose off on the line? See attached image. Thanks!

Just to clarify, that would be 7mm hose from stoddard with end caps left un-crimped? Which end caps are the correct size? There seems to be variation between early pump and late pump lines.

Dick Wiess's response is according to a later 356C--but which fittings are correct for a T5 B with early pump and zeniths?

Max, and all;

My 4-cam fuel lines were never crimped up front (@ the fuel pumps) and including the engine lines as long as I use the 7mm OEM braided hose on 8mm steel lines--they've been on the car for 17+ years and no leaks & still flexible--
even w/ the ethanol fuel; Nothing shows up in the fuel strainer/pressure relief bole.

Hi Dick
Is that an error? 17 years?
I was told that with our modern fuels that these 'rubber' hoses should now be replaced every year.
I personally think that is a little O.T.T with some garages perhaps needing the work, but 17 years!
Regards Jay

My "ethanol rated" rubber hose connecting from the fuel tank petcock to the fuel hard line began leaking two weeks ago. Upon closer inspection it had actually split at the hard line connection. The rubber line was only 5(!) years old based on the date stamped on the rubber. I had replaced all the rubber fuel lines at that time.

I am now replacing all of the rubber lines, again, with a different mfg's. "ethanol rated" product. I don't know if replacement is needed every year, but it certainly needs to be carefully inspected a lot more frequently than we did in the past.

Yes John,

When the 4-cam was reinstalled in 2000. Ditto w/the present pushrod engine while the 4-cam is out for a partial rebuild (burned a hole in piston #2 after 55 years)
