I presume you are considering spot cleaning.
Don't get it soaked, but use only the suds from a cleaner on a soft brush.
I've used Woolite and some other I've forgotten as it was 50 years ago. Since 1963 I've only had GT's (vinyl).
The original carpet is prone to shrinkage.

PS: I think the other cleaner was Spic & Span.

I too am interested in cleaning my car's square weave carpet. Is Woolite the best method? Or is there an alternative that works better?
This must have been done a thousand times be you guys.

A quick Search for "Carpet Cleaner" results in these two threads:

http://forum.porsche356registry.org/vie ... et+cleaner

http://forum.porsche356registry.org/vie ... et+cleaner

They mention Folex Instant Carpet Spot remover and hazards of Steam Cleaning.

Folex and a soft toothbrush. Takes time but very effective and safe.
