Re: Door Bottom Seal Clips
I stand corrected, they are welded tabs. The photo should be horizontal, for some reason it downloads 90° counterclockwise.

Re: Door Bottom Seal Clips
The doors on my 59 coupe seem to leak air in at the bottoms. Would the car have come with something glued on? I wonder if this would be a good solution. What did they do on earlier cars to stop the air leak?

Re: Door Bottom Seal Clips
See https://www.stoddard.com/64453192100-nla.html yes, this seal can be glued on earlier than T-6 models.
Note in the photos slots where the rubber is cut away. Are the slots to accommodate the holding tabs (discussed above) or to line up with water drain holes in the door bottom?

Re: Door Bottom Seal Clips
Jerry I don’t remember these on cars up to 59, does anyone know when they were 1st used .
Some suggested they started with the T5 B , less the Roadsters.

Re: Door Bottom Seal Clips
My '63 Karmann coupe doors were unmolested and didn't have the tabs. As Doug pointed out, the welded on tabs are found on the sides of the engine compartment, the gas tank vent hose and also the rubber seal around the door opening.
As far as the cut-outs in the rubber, they align with the drain holes. But, do the weld tabs also line up with the drain holes?

Re: Door Bottom Seal Clips
My tabs do not line up with the drain holes on the door bottom. I believe the seal in my photos is incorrect as it is a flat rubber strip without cut outs for the drain holes. The new seals I purchased have a contour and do have cut outs for the drain holes.

Re: Door Bottom Seal Clips
Has anyone come across these metal clips for the door bottom seals? This is a 64 C Karman.
Alan
Yes. Welded on and probably one of the first part that fell off the car, as they were bent to go over the rubber, breaking what paint there was to bare metal. Just like the tabs that hold the rear vertical door seal that are nearly always gone.... T-6

Roy, problem is, my car has been garaged in CA since new and has only one spot of rust in the far right rear corner of the engine pan. The doors (above) show no sign of rust at all.Roy Smalley wrote:Yes. Re: Door Bottom Seal Clips
Thanks, Brad. Now does anyone have a picture of new ones installed and if they glue them on do they use something like Worth trim glue or Fast Tack? I'll bet someone else would like to see this.

Re: Door Bottom Seal Clips
A good point Brad - that is, of course, a distinct possibilityBrad - Not clips, but spot-welded tabs -- which mostly rusted away ......
Mike, you think these might have been only on Reutter bodied cars?
and
Yes! - Spot Welded Tabs (Not Clips)
They are GREAT for tearing chunks out of your fingers when washing this area

Re: Door Bottom Seal Clips
i have no idea if they were installed only on Reutter vs. Karmann-bodied cars. My '63 Karmann didn't have them.
