Door Bottom Seal Clips

#1 Post by Alan Winer »

Has anyone come across these metal clips for the door bottom seals? This is a 64 C Karman.

I haven't run across these clips. The seals I've seen were just glued on.

Mine is a very late Karmann build. I'm second owner, but I can not swear there have been no modifications, but it doesn't seem to have those:

I have not had those on any of my 3 C/SC's but they sure do look original. And I can't imagine someone going to the trouble of adding them.

Ron, I'm a bit concerned about your screw alignment. Have you had the originality police approve that? :P

Not clips, but spot-welded tabs -- which mostly rusted away ......

Mike, you think these might have been only on Reutter bodied cars?

Just to make me feel better --- are we talking "clips" or welded tabs? If clips, then what's the part number?

Welded tabs similar to those in the engine compartment and under the car for holding wiring harness in place. Also found on T6 cars for holding fuel overflow tube in the right front wheel well. Not clips.

Story:
When I built the Speedster way back when, it got door pockets to hold in maps and such. At the time, I still smoked, so the pockets got ashtrays included the structures. They were well designed and constructed, swiveling out with spring loaded detents at the 'open' and 'closed' positions, silk-screened iconography on the surface to indicate the function, and a light which was (and still is) switched on when it is opened, so you can find 'em at night.
And when I first showed the car, in 'special interest' class, I didn't clean the damn ashtrays. And lost points for that; 2nd place.
Ah well.
