T-6 shift coupler bushings flats in holes
The repair bushings I got from Stoddard for a T-6 shift coupler have flats on the ID holes. Since the pin does not have flats, I am wondering about this feature. Is this to create interference with the pin?

Worry not, you are probably correct in your surmise but I have replaced many of these and the end result is a better shifting linkage. Just do it.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

especially, in the later 900 cars (911, 912), this shape allows a little fore/aft movement, from the chassis/drivetrain and keeps harsh road bumps, from pulling the trans out of gear, they are intentional,

I think the space the flats provide reduces the noise a bit too.
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....

The oblong openings in the shift linkage bushings is to unload any pressure against the shift forks which reduces wear on the synchronizes.. al zim 2018/08/09
