C car Emergency brake switch for gauge light
My recently acquired 64 C car has an idiot light to remind you that your driving with the e brake on. It is triggered by an electrical switch mounted by the e-brake handle. The switch is missing from my car and was wondering if there is a replacement that can be purchased some where. If not then plan B is to rig up a micro switch to do the job. I forgot to release twice already and I don't care for that burning brake smell when I come to a stop. All my old air cooled vw's have the brake lever between the seats right where your hand falls to when driving.

Re: C car Emergency brake switch for gauge light
They do come up for sale once in awhile. Usually when I see one for sale it is with the handle and rod. I bought a spare that may work and have another that needs the plastic piece extended because it broke. No substitute that I am aware of. I will try to get a picture of the one with broken plastic plunger piece which I think could be repaired. If you would like to try email me. Not very common as only used on 64 and 65 C/SC

Correct Mark. Looking at the picture they are about the same size as the inch and a half long switch! Or even smaller!

In case someone in the future needs to repair the plastic plunger like on my broken one I measured as well as I can and it seems the length of the plastic plunger piece is between 7,7 and 8mm measured from the metal inside it goes through.

My plastic piece is broken, I was able to re-zinc the housing. Does anybody sell the the plastic switch and spring? I have a 1965 356 C. Thanks

Similar plastic pieces can be found on some current lights one can buy. Perhaps cut off new lamp and glue onto your broken piece? As far as I know no parts available. My broken one went to another member. Unsure if he got it to work. The last one I found for sale was on Los Angeles Craigslist in the car parts section.

Nothing on eBay or The Samba right now but as Doug suggested, maybe you can canibalize parts from later switches to repair yours.

I think 1960s VW door switches have similarity to part of that switch.

It also looks like an A or T5B interior light door switch would have similar plastic piece: https://www.stoddard.com/64461560100-nla.html.html but having a C I am not sure.

When I need a plastic piece such as this I check my supply of dead ballpoint pens.
I usually can find one the right size to work.

Indeed a seasoned VW restorer was able to fix mine using VW switch parts

This is an old post, but if you need to repair that switch you can adapt one of these VW switches.
