I believe that it needs the 4 cam to be a GS. To be a GS it’s a Carrera. GT is different. Though most GT’s are GS/GT’s (and a Carrera).

The 1959 GT speedsters with push rod motors aren’t considered or badged Carrera’s.

This is my understanding. Open to correction but it’s what I read.

To add fuel to the fire, there were also S-90 GT coupes sold by Porsche and I believe( 7), SC-GT coupes were also produced. These were fitted with pushrod engines but over-all weight was some 200lbs lighter than the regular coupes, thanks to aluminum doors and lids, etc.

^^ exactly. GT meant lighter weight. GS meant 4 cam and is synonymous with Carrera. There were not pushrod Carreras. There were push rod GT (and not called Carreras). All 4 cam lightweights were GS/GT’s. Of course there were the non lightweight GS Carreras.

Yes, my former GS coupe was designated as such on the aluminum I.d. tag in the trunk. Ex-Carrera II, now being restored to its' former glory by a new owner.

I think Humpty Dumpty solved your fellows problem some time ago: He said, " When I use a word it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less."
Since 356 Porches were, to coin a phrase, "made by hand", meaning no two alike, everyone gets to do as Humpty does.
