Zenith carb expansion plug

#1 Post by Nate Greene »

Gents,

My Zenith carb is missing a plug that goes in the carb top. Does anyone know where I can get a proper replacement?

I think you better call carb rescue and see if they can help, failing that you can make a plug as it is only a piece of sheet metal and does nothing but cover the drilling for the vent chamber tube. I would suggest a piece of mild steel just big enough to press in the hole then smear some JB weld on it and it will probably never fall out again.
I am assuming you are referencing the plug in the attached picture

Actually it is on the other side, where the pump lives.

Looks like you need more than the plug as the bottom left hand thread link appears to be broken. Even though it is the other side it still has no effect on operation of the carb except that some carb vapors will now escape in to the engine compartment instead of venting from the center of the vent cross piece and down into the throat of the carb.
Take a run down to J3 restorations in Columbia and see if Rich Ewald can help.
