Re: rusted chrome rims from Stoddards
Thanks, Per. Perhaps an evaluation of the chrome process is warranted. Triple chrome is more expensive but, hey, the rims are for a Por$che!

Re: rusted chrome rims from Stoddards
I had someone from Stoddard call me up about this, they left me a nasty message on my voice mail.
Wow.
Seems kind of unprofessional.
Explain to me again how it’s my fault that their “new” rims are starting to rust through. I keep my garage at 45% relative humidity, temp 60 degrees. Same as a museum. The car never leaves the garage unless the RH is 50% (or lower) and the roads are clean and dry. There is no salt on the roads here, Caltrans uses sand when it gets icy. I coat my rims with a super thin layer of Vaseline, just to make sure no moisture gets in.
The rims are 2 yrs old according to the stamp on the rim.
I feel like throwing them in the dumpster.

Wow indeed. Are you sure it wasn't a prank call? It doesn't sound like them to do that. If they left their name, a follow-up call to the higher-ups there would definitely be in order.

Re: rusted chrome rims from Stoddards
The number was that of Bruce Schwartz, president of Stoddard, (216) 408-7429
I’ll call him tomorrow.
If he pays for shipping, I’ll send him my rims. Then maybe they can figure out what went wrong.

Amazing, but I have some original chrome parts on my Porsche’s that were made 50 - 60 years ago that still are not exhibiting signs of corrosion.
They don’t make things quite like they used to.

My cheap Brazilian chrome rims - from Stoddard too - are still perfect after more than a decade in humid Rhode Island.
The chrome process is not simple or easy. Changes in regulations have likely hurt the quality of the job.

Whichever method you use to ship items back to Stoddard, be sure and get a signature upon delivery.
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....

Re: rusted chrome rims from Stoddards
Talked to Bruce from Stoddard today, agreed to send him one of my rims. He said he would have UPS or Fedex stop by my place and pick it up.

Bruce and Brad are 100% guys. I have never been disappointing by Stoddard/NLA, and most of you know how old I am. ...................Jim.
