Oil for 356C

#1 Post by Wyatt Blankingship »

Is Valvoline 20W-50 VR1 a good oil to use on my 1964 356C? It is a high zinc oil?
Help on this would be appreciated. Wyatt Blankingship

Thanks Dan. That is what I have been using. Reason for my question was that when I ordered it from O'Rielly Auto Parts I was told that is was not suitable for my 356C.

Wyatt - it's all I put in my 356C with a 1720 motor because of the zinc content. Not the easiest oil to find around me, so I stock up when I can find it.

Sean,
Thanks for your reply. Glad to hear that Valvoline is a good oil for my 356C. I live in Marietta, Ga. Found my oil at a nearby O'Rielly store. They had 5 gal. containers. They should have some stores in Richmond.

Wyatt. Mobil 1 15/50 has 1300 ppm of ZDDP which was supposed to be the right amount for our engines and is half the cost of the Valvoline. $22.88 for 5 quarts at Walmart.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.
