what battery is correct for a '59 356A?

need something with the correct dimensions.

Most 6 volt batteries will fit. You can buy one at most auto parts stores including NAPA and also tractor supply or their ilk. I usually can find them for between $65 and $110
If you were to give us a location then more specific info would be forthcoming.

Pretty sure size is 19L I have used NAPA and Interstate in my 65 which takes the same size.

Best not to leave the batteries in these cars, if you do then the entire area should be cleaned on a regular basis to neutralize any residual battery acid before it corrodes the sheet metal. I only put mine in when I want to drive the car, then I immediately remove it afterwards and trickle charge it on the bench.
