What started this thread are the photos in Neil's Book about Coupe Nr 103526, born in April 1958. The photos on pages 126/127 are reproduced below.
Trevor, you are correct, massive is the wrong word for what are thick-walled, welded together elbow pipes. In my fifty years of being in the Porsche parts business, I have never seen such elbows in the flesh; I have only seen the usual thin wall bent elbows.
However, the sequence of the part numbers for these elbows indicates four versions of elbows. The earliest has a suffix of "00", then on thru "03". So there were different versions of those elbows. I have no way to research the first two iterations. Does anybody have any Factory documentation about these?
