Bolt Spacing same for 63 Ponto vs Aero?

#1 Post by Conrad Carter »

I have Ponto on right (driver) side on my 63T6 Coupe and want a left (passenger) side mirror with convex mirror. I see that I can actually purchase Aero mirrors (reproductions) with flat and convex mirrors. Can I remove the driver side Ponto and bolt up an Aero on driver side w/o drilling new holes?

Conrad,
The specific answer is NO. The mirrors are interchangeable between Pontos and Aeros so you can just change the mirror to get the mirror you desire. But you will still need to buy the Aeros. Worst case you may need to remove the Ponto mirror base to restart the screw into the mirror. The holes for the Ponto are much closer than those the Aero. KTF..

The bolt-spacing question for the 356 mirrors has come up a few times. Here is the spacing for the various 356 mirrors that Paul Domitrovic measured today:

Durant SIC-731-001-10 30 to 55 mm, bolts are moveable
Aero NLA-731-002-00 65 mm
Ponto NLA-731-003-00 38,50 mm
Talbot NLA-731-003-06 40 mm

Hope these measurements help in the future.

It is too bad that the reproductions of the Ponto and the Aero mirrors don't have movable bolts like the Durant.

It’s also too bad that the rubber seal is such a bad fit to the mirror base. We had the luxury of having four available to try, and only could get one to fit.
