Great report Chip. I'm processing some pics from Monday and will post them here. In the meantime, here's a couple.

Hi Jameel,

I shared the link to all of these photos with some of my PCA and 356 Registry friends. One of them, Neil MacDonald, President of Chicago Region PCA, is a professional photographer. For some reason, he is also an attorney. Neil is not a 356 Registry member, so was unable to reply to you. He asked that I send the following compliment to you:

Some real stunners, there, Ed. Thanks for presenting.

Since I'm not a member of the 356 Registry or Club, could you contact Jameel Abraham, the fellow who posted the two pictures on page 2 of the link you sent, and tell him how much I like the vertical picture of the two 356 rear decks he shot? Very bold graphically.

Neil

Thank you for the posts Chip. Can you share any of the early history of the Adria Blue Metallic 356? Was curious what dealership it was bought at and if there was a plate frame on the 356.

Ed,

Wow, I'm flattered by Neil's comments, and humbled. Both my father and brother (incidentally both air-cooled 911 owners at one time or another) were both pro photographers, so some of it must have worn off on me too.

Early 356's are, and have always been my favorite Porsches. I was really looking forward to shooting at the 356 Reg Reunion out at Rennsport, but just found out its full up! I'm a bit bummed, but I'll put word out that I'm looking for spare tickets. Please tell Neil his comments are much appreciated! Maybe we'll bump into each other someday.

Cheers,
Jameel

Stunning group of cars!

I first saw Chip's Adria Blue '51 while its restoration was in progress at Stalltek. It is one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen. And I don't mean most beautiful 356s or Porsches . . . I mean most beautiful cars of any kind.

Thank you Stuart and George for your kind words. The Parade was a lot of fun and it was great to see such a nice group of 356s show up for the event. Many attendees told me they had never seen a split window 356 before.

Thank you Jameel for posting the great photos you took. I enjoyed seeing you and your brother Father John Abraham again. Seeing you two drive your two fabulous 911SCs together is quite a sight! I look forward to spending more time with you at Rennsport Reunion in September. I understand you will be caravanning out there with Lee and Neil Schlabaugh who restored our ‘51 Coupe.

Mark, the license plate and frame came off my ‘54 Pre-A Coupe that was restored by Steve Conger of Camarillo, CA. It appears to be a period piece. I put it on the ‘51 because I thought it looks good on the car along with the Art Deco style letters and numbers on the plate.

I thought it would be fun to bookend this thread about the oldest and totally analog Porsches at the Parade with a photo of the newest and almost completely digital Porsche, the all electric Tican, which was enthusiastically introduced by PCNA President Klaus Zellmer at the Parade Welcome Dinner. This car goes from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. While it’ll get you there faster and with no engine noise and operates like a “computer on wheels,” I’ll always prefer the slower, mechanically powered and more elegant cars that we get to drive and preserve for future generations of car enthusiasts. In my book, a fast modern electric car, even one produced by Porsche, can’t beat the overall driving experience or provide the tactile and exhilarating man/woman - machine connection that you get in the driver’s seat of a well sorted 356!

Jameel - that IS a terrific photo. Nicely done! Maybe a vertical cover for the next Registry mag?

Chip - Couldn't agree with you more re: Tican and modern electric cars in general. Next to something like that our cars sure are starting to look a bit like a Model T.

Modern cars are amazing and fantastic, but I sure like old simple ones.

Chip, Great write up!! It was very nice to meet you and everyone at Parade; Pamela, Jeffrey, Lee, Neil, Jameel, Father John, Pat and Lillian. My favorite car at the entire show was yours, hands-down!! We also drove to Parade from NYC (Skis, Luggage and all) and had a few adventures on the way... and back.

Some photos showing 60 years of development since our car was built:
