horn problem

Need some advice troubleshooting a horn problem in my 1964 356C. Horn sounds weak at best and then just clicks; horn would previously sound pretty good but multiple presses saw it peter out. I checked the grounds, the return rubber spring under the horn button, and the contact switch - all seem OK. Am wondering about a relay problem but am not sure how to proceed. It has the original relay. Any and all thoughts appreciated.
thanks,
fran kelly

I'd try by passing the relay. Disconnect the positive wire from the horn and touch a jumper wire to the horn from the positive side of the battery. If it sounds loud and clear, then I would suspect the relay or the horn contact ring.

If it needs repair and/or restoration, Julian Hardie is the guy.

Since the relay was clicking I knew it was probably a bad connection somewhere... horn switch OK and then pulled both horns (they have never been touched in the 32 years I've owned the car. Bad (i.e.,loose and corroded) connection on passenger side horn. Cleaned everything up and presto. A NEW HONKING HORN! Moral of the story: old cars sometimes need simple interventions initially, especially with original wiring. Thanks again Mike. Keep the Faith.
