Re: Can anyone recommend a reliable engine shipper ?
I recently (April) shipped a 912 engine (intact, i.e. shroud, muffler, etc.) from
Connecticut to Seattle for around $800 with a company called FreightCenter, clever huh?
Not cheap but very professional, on schedule, as promised.
Enclosed like Mr. Jones above. No damage, no problem.

Re: Can anyone recommend a reliable engine shipper ?
I'm reviving this thread because I'm trying to ship an engine from Sacramento to Little Rock. I got a quote from YRC Freight, referred to earlier in this thread, for only $127, terminal-to-terminal in a wooden crate as is being discussed. The catch is that $4,000 of insurance coverage (inadequate) increases the cost to over $725.
I'm awaiting a quote from Engines Direct.
What do others folks do about insurance when shipping?

I ended up using Joris' shipper, www.engineshipping.com ; they were reasonable and quick, and they didn't bang anything up.

From what I can tell Engines Direct and engineshipping.com are the same company.
There are a number of cargo insurance companies (also called Excess Cargo, Gap Insurance, etc) out there and I have gotten "instant quotes" for $7,000 coverage, $500 deductible, ranging from $55 to $125. As with all insurance companies, the devil is in the details and actually making a claim is another story.

Re: Can anyone recommend a reliable engine shipper ?
I ended up shipping through a company in KC MO, freightquote.com which works with various shippers and insurance companies to provide a competitive quote. It cost me $308 to ship an engine from CA to AR, including $7,000 insurance with $500 deductible, via Fedex Freight. Freightquote was very easy to work with and their price with insurance was considerably less than what Fedex quoted. Apparently insurance rates vary among trucking companies according to their claims history, handling reputation, etc, which makes sense. While I found slightly lower freight rates from other companies their insurance rates were higher, sometimes exorbitantly so. Fedex was the "sweet spot". I'll post an update when the engine arrives, in a week or so.

My guys used to get bonused if they could make it from Atlanta to LA in 48 hours, they could do it, but there was lots of eating, pooping and sleeping in the truck. We used to call it the LAX beard, because it was usually a two day stubble upon arrival in Atlanta.John Lindstrom wrote:All reliable professional truckers poop in their trucks.

Re: Can anyone recommend a reliable engine shipper ?
I just received an engine shipped from Sacramento on June 29. It arrived in NW Arkansas in perfect condition on July 5, a day ahead of schedule and over the holiday week no less. Shipping was arranged by freightquote.com at a cost of $309, including $7,000 insurance. Fedex Freight transported it terminal-to-terminal and it couldn't have been easier or more reasonable. Total weight with crate was 400 lbs.
