New Stoddard Route Borrani Knockoffs
Got an email from Stoddard advertising these. They look sharp. What's the scoop? In particular: weight, where made, is there a model for drum brakes, how is the aluminum rim attached to the center, etc.

Edwin,
Call 1-800-342-1414 and ask to speak to Bruce Schwartz, current owner of Stoddards. If he can't answer those questions no one can.

Made in Italy by Ruote Borrani (original manufacturer), riveted aluminum spun forged rims to stamped steel centers. I'll get a weight on the 15x5.5 shortly.
The 356A and 356B versions are on the water now. That conversion set includes four new forged aluminum drums.....

Weight of the rims is something to consider, and compare.
Does anybody do the same with the tyres ??

We had a running list on tire weights, and there certainly is a difference. You might try a cruise through the 'Tires' stickee thread to see if it got saved there.David Nicholls wrote:Weight of the rims is something to consider, and compare.

Re: New Stoddard Route Borrani Knockoffs
The thread started out with a question from Edwin partially about wheel weights, not tire weights.
Over the years when Porsche/Rudge wheels are talked about, the subject of weight usually comes up. Surely, the extra weight of the splined flanges (Rudge patent) has to be considered. In the case of the Borrani-produced wheels with similar flanges, the rims are aluminum and not steel as in the German Kronprinz-produced wheels.
