Far out man!Sebastian Gaeta wrote:There is a very nice vintage VW show in Ypsilanti, MI every year and I go back and forth between bringing one of the 356's or one of the air cooled VW's. Yes, the best reaction is when I bring a 356, but when this guy showed up this year, it didn't matter what I brought...he won!

Amazing that the Beatnik Bandit is still around, I remember when Big Daddy Ed Roth showed up nat the Oakland Roadster Show with it, guessing 1962??? Plus he had all of the Rat Fink stuff, he had a huge cult following and really started the T-Shirt car-toon trend. He also liked VWs and drove some daily, one had a 356 engine. He did a shirt for one of my friends back in the early 70's with a Speedster and R.F.

Getting back off topic, what the heck are those giant, red light housings? Some sort of old train or streetcar part that they have re-purposed as a third brake light? J

Jay,
If you are talking about the car I posted, it’s the brake light and when it lights up it says “STOP”.

Ok. What was it’s original application? There’s another one on that green Bus in the earlier photos. I doubt there was a third brake light option on early ‘60s VWs? J
