Porsche on the pier

#1 Post by Dan Epperly »

Everyone should take their 356 to a VW air cooled show, they love them. At a Porsche event no one looks at a red T-6 Normal unless it is on fire, at a VW event you are a rock star and get to park your car on the pier for cool pictures!

Awesome! Which show was it? Did you have a class to enter or were you a spectator?

I spy a nice looking Corrado behind you. :)

Called the Air Cooled Fiesta held this year in Imperial Beach, CA South of San Diego. Put on by a local VW club, but open to any aircooled car and I guess a few water cooled, too.
There was one other 356, an early beehive A and a couple 912s including a very nice soft top Targa.
I recommend this show highly for you local guys, super nice people, wide variety of early VWs, well organized and only $20 to get in, $30 to Park on the pier, and you get a free T shirt with it.

On a side note as I was drving home through IB a crossover SUV pulled up and this little girl in the back seat about 8 with her mom driving rolls down the window and says, "Nice car." I said, "thanks," and then she asks, "where'd you find it?"

Dan, I agree on taking your 356 to a VW car show.
A friend of mine called me and ask if I wanted to go to a VW car show in Redlands.
I said sure, lets take the 356.
We were ROCK STARS ! They kept thanking us for bringing it, and had us park in one of the best spots.

They probably didn't even shame you for having Super hubcaps. :P But your car does look super.

Look forward to seeing that finished cab Spencer! Dan, +1 on the yearly Air Cooled Fiesta in San Diego. I took some pics at the 2014 event held then at Southwestern College. I drove a '39 Ford that year and since it is water-cooled I parked it in the spectator lot. The previous year I brought our '64 SC 15 footer (looks best from that distance) and parked next to a cool unrestored oval window V Dub in the lineup. The engine is stock and nicely restored so I popped the lid and did a walk around to see the other cars. Walking back later I saw a young guy kneeling near the engine bay of the SC taking a selfie with the engine. Gotta say that made my day! Enjoy the pics of some of our vintage cousins.

There is a very nice vintage VW show in Ypsilanti, MI every year and I go back and forth between bringing one of the 356's or one of the air cooled VW's. Yes, the best reaction is when I bring a 356, but when this guy showed up this year, it didn't matter what I brought...he won!
