Hey, cool Porch!

#1 Post by Adam Wright »

Haven't we all heard this? Normally I just smile and say thanks, it isn't worth the argument, Porch, Porsche, people like it, that's what matters, right?

Except a friend of mine stopped by the shop the other day and I looked down at his DMV Registration, and it actually said PORCH. He said the lady at the DMV wrote it up that way 20 years ago, and he figured it would be tough to get changed, so in this instance it's official, nice PORCH!

A blonde canvassed a wealthy neighborhood looking for odd jobs. She went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had anything for her to do.
"Well, you can paint my porch. How much will you charge?"
She replied, "How about $50?"
The man agreed and told her the paint was in the garage. A short time later, the blonde came to the door to collect her money.
"You're finished already?" he asked.

"Yes," the blonde answered, "and I had paint left over, so I gave it two coats." Impressed, the man reached in his pocket for the $50.

"And by the way," the blonde added, "that's not a Porsche; it's a Ferrari."

The most common mis-identification I hear is that of a Ghia. I always hear, "Nice Ghia" lol

Some years ago, I took my 911 on a tour with my PCA Region and while working our way through a parking lot at our destination I heard someone (not one of our PCA guys) authorataviely annouce to his friends: "That's a Karmann Ghia."
It's an old 911, but still...

My favorite is when I have a 356 on the trailer and some guy says, "Is that one of the fake's?"

Do fake's rust?

That actually happened with this car, he insisted it was fake.

My grandmother always called my car a porch. It was a 911 grey market car that still had the speedometer in kilometers per hour.
She needed to go some where and my car was the only one available so she went for her one and only ride in that car.
I had to travel on the freeway which as we all know requires you to do at least 65 mph.
She was use to driving in a much bigger and higher profiled American car so it seemed to her like I was always speeding.
and so she glanced at the speedometer and saw that it read about 105 and she became furious.
I tried to explain that this was in KPH not MPH but she never got it. In fact she shared this experience everytime there was a discussion about my Porch always speeding above 100 mph. Bless her heart, may she RIP.

i was driving my 57 rat and my friend was behind me in a twin grill roadster. Guy pulls up next to me and goes, THAT THING IS AWESOME! What year? - it's a 57. SWEET, that is so much cooler than that plastic faker behind you... ookaaayyy. then he goes, I had a Ghia just like that too, it was a 69 or 70.

I've had my Roadster called an MG and a Jaguar but I knew things hit the bottom when someone called it a Fiat.

Years ago, while still towing my race car on an open trailer, someone asked me if it was a 1/4 midget?
I replied "No, it's NOT a 1/4 midget" with all the disdain I could muster.

If it was a 1/4 midget it would have been faster. :P

A woman in a gas station called my friend's 60' coupe, "...one of those Italian Volkswagens."

Last month at a show at Kiawah Island, SC, I overheard a man explaining to his friend that "virtually all the parts" on Curt Dansby's Cabriolet were interchangeable with a VW.
