Original bolt finishes

#1 Post by George Kehler »

I have some old original hardware, including bolts. They are KAMAX, KARO, NSF, DERA, VERBUS but are in grungy condition. Would anyone know their specific original finishes ?? Would like to restore them. Thanks. George

George,

I'm afraid there is not quite enough information to accurately answer your question. As a GENERAL RULE interior and engine bay bolts were Cad I plated and suspension bolts were black oxide. There are of course countless exceptions and differences but this is a starting point. You wouldn't happen to have any KARRO 8G m6x20mm bolts in that lot that you would be wiling to spare?

Great article here: https://porsche356registry-production-p ... 1431541784 In Our Registry Magazine Volume 38 -5 Sorry Scott but although Cad may be used today it was rare in the 356 era. And is getting rare again due to chemicals used. And George Joris Koning insists that you need to test each piece to know for sure what finish was used as it differs from printed material frequently. See Joris comment and other discussion here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=31113&hilit=bolt+finishes
