Depending upon how deep the scrstches are, you could try using a scratch removal liquid or fine sandpaper then buffing the knob with a polish.

Does it have a dimple? It looks like a circle instead,or is it just the picture? It should not be a problem to sand and polish, just make sure to polish it carefully so you don't get any "burn" marks, caused by building up too much heat. That can slightly smear the plastic, although more sanding can fix that too, up to a point.

I sanded and polished my well- used original dimple nob by hand while watching TV. It came out great. Gradations of fine sand paper culminating in polishing compound with a cloth diaper did the trick - good as new!

How confident are you that it is original David? The only one I see depicted in the parts catalog is elongated. I only came across this because I was questioning the originality of the one found in our car.

It may not matter for us. I'll probably end up using this one anyway. I don't think its original, but appears to fit. I expect a lot of extra style points if we were to participate in a concours.

Great looking shift knob, however, remember it isn't recommended to leave your hand on the knob between shifts so, the impulse to fondle the knob would be problematic...
