356's in CUBA

#1 Post by Adam Wright »

I saw these pics on a Facebook post and thought I would share.

Nice to see the craziness they do down South to keep the faith.

OK, Brad and Bruce, 'fess up. How many Cuban delivery addies do you have on file?
Added by edit: Pre Mat has none, but I'd be pleased...

When Barbara was membership chairman, we had several Cuban members; kind of. Problem was: the government would not let them send money out of country. So an anonymous member paid for their membership.
Don't know if that's still the situation or not.

Ron, you sideways asked about customers in Cuba that might have bought parts -- actually none that I know of. Of course, just like many foreign customers, delivery addresses seem to US border cities next to Canada or, say, Miami. So, it's likely spare parts somehow might get into Cuba.

Here's Youtube for you -- great music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zyomZ1s9Yc

FOG in Florida; COG in Cuba. Too bad we can't start a foreign (parts) aid program!

I think the Registry magazine ran an article on Cuban 356's and that most of their spare parts, such as they were, came from Italy IIRC.

I think they did some pretty interesting things to make available windshields fit.

There is a movie anyone interested in automotive CUBA should watch.

It's called Yank Tanks. The guy went around and documented all the cottage industries that are around the island to keep cars going, the guy who chromes in his basement, the guy who make windshields, the tire re-tredder's. Even the guy who paints cars with nail polish, which you can buy on the black market. It's a fascinating movie.

I interviewed the director back in my magazine days, the guy had some stones, he was down there filming Educational material and filmed this whole movie on the side.

Yep, Uncle Ernesto in Miami...
I've got a lot of 'border' shipping addresses also.
