'59A No Power @ Coil

#1 Post by Dan Kalinski »

Not getting any power to the coil.

Looks like the first fuse in the fuse block covers the coil power (according to the A wiring diagram working from). Can't read any power @ fuse block either with ignition on.

Faulty ignition switch?

Can this circuit be jumped and from where to isolate circuit from ignition switch/fuse block?

Starter will crank the engine.

Thanks for your help.

Dan, I don't think the ignition is fused on any 356. I'd check term#15 on the ign sw with the ignition on.

Dan, as Ron said the coil power is not fused but check the connections on the back of the ignition switch. The soldered connections have been known to fail after many years of use. The bullet connector could be loose or it could have fallen out. Only way to check is to get your head under there and with the aid of a good flashlight try and make out the numbers or check the orientation of the connections and see if they are all in their respective places. There are three places labelled #15 and one of these will have the power that runs to the coil. If you want to start the car you can connect a wire to the B+ connection on the voltage regulator and run it to the Coil #15 connection and the car will start but until you remove that wire the engine will continue to run as the ignition switch will have no effect.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Thanks Gentlemen!

Ignition switch was/is fine and working as it should.

Have an ancillary switch for ignition where wire was not tight and corroded. Should have looked there first.....

Cleaned and re-attached and all is well.

Thanks for coming to my rescue.

DJ.

I've had anti-theft devices that kept me from "stealing" my own car too.......
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....
