I was just watching wheeler dealers and one of the hop up upgrades was to ceramic coat the manifolds of a mustang. Would that have a discernible difference on a 356? What would you do it on, just the J tubes? Would it work on the muffler, it seems like after a thousand miles or so mine look like burned paint and detoriation.
I realize most of my driving is street , this would be belt and suspenders stuff. Motors for my 52 and speedster are both apart. It sounds relatively inexpensive and easy to get done. It might be worth it just cosmeticly.

I had mine done on the excuse pipes on my 64SC but I have a stainless muffler.

I am no expert but I think ceramic exhaust coatings are best on very solid things like cast iron manifolds. I would expect cracking issues on our thin exhaust parts from tightening the clamps, or driving.

I had it done several years ago on the muffler, S and J pipes. No flaking or any other issues. My guess is that the better the prep, sandblasting, etc., the better the adhesion and longevity.

i had my pre a sport muffler done when it was new in 2006 still looks good as new.

Do you have a loved one who dislikes your 356 so much you need an excuse system? Holy auto-correct Batman.

Seriously though, the muffler on my '65 911 has a "Jet Hot" brand ceramic coating. It's held up fine for 20 years.

Does the Jet Hot get to the inside of the muffler? A pretty exterior isn't much help if the interior rusts away.

I honestly don't know. I do know that my '65 911's muffler has been fine for 20 years.
