How to clean wiring insulation?
I want to clean the short harness in the engine compartment. What should I use? Thanks.

I have had good results using Simple Green.

I have some of the wipes that a chemist colleague makes that removes contaminates, layer by layer. They are sufficiently gentle and are great for cleaning wires that have had so many contaminants over the years. I am sure that there are similar products in the US.

+1 for Simple Green on cloth wiring. For newer, plastic coated I use a rag slightly dampened with Prep-sol from any auto body supply shop.
