At the 356 event at Laguna Seca I was with Mike Robbins as a corner worker. Bob picked us up in his van with nearly bald tires and the back filled with other ties and took us back to the Start Finish line. WHAT A RIDE!

Bob drove a GT-40 (the roadster version) at the 1965 Targa Florio. I had the great dumb luck of attending that race and prior to the race we came across the house that the Ford team was in. Access and crowd control was different in those days and not many Americans were at that race so when we pulled up to the house we were greeted and warmly received. There in the attached 2 car garage was the GT-40 which I was able to sit in. Of course, when "Ford vs Ferrari" came out I was able to tell the Grandkids that their old art grand poppy had sat in a GT-40. Oh yes, fond memories of youth. Bob was a pleasant and gracious man.
It was there that I first saw the Porsche factory's 6-cylinder successor to our 356.
