leaky flywheel seals
Am gathering all successful ways of installing the flywheel seal. The last time I went through this the shop that does my engines had it in and out six times trying to get one to seal. After that I did it and used the Locktite 210 to dowel pins and Curil T on the iron gasket. No problem. Now, it seems, that isn't working. Speedy sleeve? Any problems with that? Thanks, in advance.

Hi John
Have Dennis resurface the socket in the flywheel and advise to the Speedy Sleeve.

Re: leaky flywheel seals
Generally the leak can be seen to be from the seal or the iron gasket so you address one area or the other. If you need a speedy sleeve it should be obvious that the flywheel seal surface is not perfect. It might have only minor flaws but some sort of flaw will be visible. The area of the flywheel that contacts the iron gasket is much harder to inspect but there was a very good article in the club magazine explaining what to do.

Attention, people with a memory, not me. What issue of the Registry magazine had the technical article about inspecting and machining flywheels? John would like to read it, especially the part about the taper at the gasket surface.

Thanks all. This is why we have a forum. I found the article on the flywheel and 1.5 degree taper. Any other tips are welcome

Re: leaky flywheel seals
I have installed speedy sleeves twice on flywheels. The first time was in the late 1980s and all went well. Last week I helped a friend install one and we had a hard time peeling off the installation flange. If I were to do it again I would use a Dremel with a thin cutoff wheel to cut through the flange all the way to the tear line.
