356B T5 Washer "bottle" position

#1 Post by Ian William Stockwell »

Hi All
When I received my car from California it did not have a windscreen washer system, it had the jets but that's all, probably no need for it out there.
I purchased the "bottle" and foot pump etc. but I understand there should be a "wire" to hang the blue pouch but mine is lacking this.
Can anybody tell me the correct position for this item, I understand that it sits on the right hand side inner wing when looking at the fuel tank but not sure how far along to position it.

Many thanks

Ian: check out the thread on washer bottle caps. It shows the location for right hand drive cars.

I have a LHD coupe that has an original mount. I can measure it for you if you need it. KTF

The position for this supporting wire is the same for both LHD and RHD Cars

(There is one exception, that I am aware of, on a very early RHD Car)

Ian I posted a photo on the other washer reservoir thread this week of mine viewtopic.php?f=1&t=45753 I suspect it is the same. I can measure if that helps.

Ian, On a 1957 A coupe the weld starts at 4 1/4" and ends at 8" from a line projected out from the straight part of the rear rain trough. On my 1958 coupe the weld starts at 5" and ends at 8 1/2". Hard to measure accurately but you get the idea.

Ian - take a close look at `the wire` in Jim`s measurements - it has a number of complex little bends in it

This Forum is fantastic.
You guys are great.
So much information in such a short time on such a small subject certainly a lot of attention to detail.
I will look at it this afternoon.
Looking at what has been provided I will try and make a wire carrier that will loop over the rain gutter seam and then get one welded in later on.
Once again many thanks.

Ian,
on my pretty original 356 BT5 it starts (welded) at 7" if you measure from the edge described by Jim at 4,25" up to the vertical sheet under the lid (in direction of the driver seat) - following a straight line of the washer bottle holder.
It is not easy to measure alone and really not easy to describe if English isn't your mother language.
If you need some pics or other reference measurements ....
