A Couple of Auctions in Australia

#1 Post by Nanette Reid »

Two cars are currently being auctioned here in Australia.

The first is a 1959 Convertible D:
https://www.lloydsonline.com.au/LotDeta ... id=1360660

Previously listed for $58,900 at European Collectables, as per 356a.com.

The second, is a 1956 T1-A Speedster (although it is described as a 1957):

This one was imported to Australia in 1998 and has been converted to RHD.

The bids are in AUD - will be interesting to see what they go for.

Concours condition is a bit of a stretch... whew.

Does the Speedster have two oil filter cans? Two different ones shown.

Last bids I managed to see before ending indicated:

Speedster: $AUD360k (USD278K)
Convertible D: $AUD220K (USD170k)

These may not be the final bids, as they haven't revealed the final selling price, but gives an idea of the (possible) prices here in AUS.
Note these figures include the 10% GST and buyer's premium of 7.5%.

I also tried to get final offers, but no news so far. I suspect that both may not have reached their reserves.

We'll have to keep our eyes peeled and ears open to any scuttlebutt that does the rounds Down Under; will definitely be interesting to see what other Australian 356 Registry members think of these two cars and the prices that were being thrown out there at this particular auction.

Mervyn was right on the money - looks like they were both passed in, as a friend just sent me an Ebay listing for the Convertible D - he was blown away by the listed price to BIN. Not sure if they are dreaming on the price, or I'm possibly so far off base with pricing these days it is actually reasonable at $AUD500k! (She was passed in at around $AUD220k.)

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1959-Porsch ... rmvSB=true

Same seller also has the Speedster for sale on their website, but that is POA. If their expectations on the Ebay listing are real, that Speedster is going to (possibly) be north of $AUD600k. (She was passed in at around $AUD360k.)

I felt the prices that they were passed in at, were close to the mark, or am I being way too optimistic and they were actually worth more?

Surely they have not doubled in value in a couple of weeks. The seller can dream though.

Thanks Nanette. Good detective work there. The highest price for a Speedster here was a '58 that I helped the very elderly owner to sell for $425K. Some high prices are being sought here https://www.carsales.com.au/private/det ... 4804/?Cr=0
