Anybody have a clue as to what this is?

#1 Post by Alex Mestas »

I was relocating all my car stuff to my new garage today and I found a box of misc. parts. Among them was this part. I have no idea what it is. I believe I got this from the prior owner of my 356 some 34 years ago. Anybody know what it is?

It is a counterweighted air cleaner inlet door from an older VW, maybe 40 hp . It forces the engine to inhale warm air at idle but opens up when more air is needed. The loop is to latch it open. When I saw the picture, I had to think hard, partly because I never owned such a new VW.

Wow Martin that was quick ! Thank you. It makes sense since I also found in that box a single air cleaner for a 40 HP VW.

Martin: You are good. I remember that part now, from my fist car, '62 Beetle convertible, with 40 HP.
