Hi,

Can anyone help with installing door windows on my 1964 356C. Can I do this with the frames still in the doors?

I find it easier to install the glass first on the regulator then slide the frame into place. The glass needs to ride in the soft channel. Speaking of the channel, it is better if you expand it a bit in the frame before sliding it over the glass. Use paint sticks to widen the soft channel so it's not so tight against the glass. Start with one, then two over a few days.

But Yes It can be done with frames in the door. A 2 person job with one manipulating the glass and one the frame in my experience. Although I did do it alone once when I was young, limber, and patient.

Thanks all. The frames are in and I have to replace the front rubber channel. I'd rather not have to mess with the frame and just put the the new front channel in without pulling out the glass. Is that that possible?

I am unsure what exactly you are referring to. Are you asking if you can replace the front metal backed window channel http://www.stoddard.com/64454290126-nla.html with frames and glass in car?

While iy may be possible theoretically I doubt that you can do it in practice.

You've already gotten good advice from better experts than I. But I just did some glass work so the process is fresh. Couple thoughts:

I recently tried to order that very channel and was told it was backordered. I'm still waiting for them to let me know it's in. I tried my best to fix the one I had as the "temporary" rubber replacement they sent was a clearly for the rear and top of the frame. It's possible I ordered incorrectly and it wasn't a Stoddard issue. Might want to call them first to verify it's in stock.

I have recently removed and replaced my door window frames at least 3-4 times each door to test and then fit plexiglass windows. It's really not all that difficult to do. Take your time and protect the paint with the restorer's best friend (blue painters tape) and some soft blankets. Keep good track of your hardware and such.

Do you have the factory workshop manual? If not, Ron Roland's book on restoration has a good procedure in it.

That metal backed channel has been back ordered multiple times over the years. It must be hard to make correctly. About 5 or 6 years ago when I was redoing my C it was back ordered for a very long time. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36607&hilit=window

The last I heard, it was still on back order.
