Gas/oil pressure gauge trick

On page 41 of Bill Beckers' article in the latest 356 Registry, he mentions wiring an oil pressure transducer through an SPDT switch to the gas gauge. Has anyone else done that or have an opinion?

While it may have given a crude measurement of oil pressure ( 1/2 tank = 3 Bar) which was better than nothing, one would have to ask "Why do it" today with the options we have. I once had a 65 SC that was converted to 12 volt with a Zener Diode board installed just in front of the fuse panel. Certainly not how I would do it today.

Thanks - it sounded interesting and certainly a better option (to me) than cutting a hole in my stock dash for another gauge. I see you have an Outlaw, and I just returned from the Amelia Werks Reunion. Took pics of some fantastic Outlaws. If you weren't there and would like me to share them with you, let me know.

My 65 has an oil pressure gauge fitted instead of the clock. Perfect fit gauge from North Hollywood. You can also mount one below the dash without chewing up your dash. Or convert your combination gauge to 904 style that has an oil pressure gauge in it. Lots of viable alternatives. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41777&start=0

I had thought of replacing the clock, but the tough job of getting at it above the radio has kept me from doing it so far. Guess I need to work on my wimp factor and just git 'er done. Clock doesn't run, and it makes more sense to get a gauge from North Hollywood as opposed to sending them the clock to repair.

Sam,
It is easy to access the clock, when a radio is installed, by removing the glove box. Just undo the single screw above the opening and the strap is no longer securing the liner, which can be withdrawn from underneath. The clock access is now simple.

Hah! After removing the radio(s) many times, on quite a few 356s, it finally dawned on me that there had to be an easier way! I always seemed to learn the hard way!
